Children who prefer engine power to paddle or wind power should have a go at our Junior or Youth Powerboating courses. It’s an exhilarating way to ride the waves which is open to children as young as eight, and ideal for thrill-seekers.
Our powerboat courses take you from the basics of low speed skills and manoeuvres to high speed adventures! We have specialist junior powerboats which are perfect for completing the RYA’s National Powerboat Scheme. From the core skills of Level 1 to the internationally recognised Level 2, we’ll teach you how to become a safe and responsible driver.

A fun introduction to the exhilarating sport of powerboating. The course will cover all the techniques required for launching and recovering a boat, boat handling and use of safety equipment. On successful completion of the course, you can drive under the supervision of a responsible adult. It’s time for you to take the controls!
2020 Dates: 13-14 April, 6-7 July, 27-28 July, 10-11 August, 19-20 October
Close quarters handling, high speed manoeuvers; man overboard recovery and collision regulations. This course is packed full of exciting activities, so you can get in the driving seat! If you are under sixteen years old, you will be given an endorsed certificate on completion of the course (allowing you to drive under the supervision of a responsible adult). When you reach the age of 16 this restriction will be lifted.
2020 Dates: 15-16 April, 8-9 July, 29-30 July, 12-13 August, 21-22 October
Pre-requisites: Youth Powerboat Level 2
The course is based around the RYA Intermediate Course, and will look at more advanced aspects of boat handling, navigating at speed, and planning short passages by day. . It will use our new training vessels, and be delivered in a fun and informative manner by our highly experienced instructors. Course content includes: a recap on Level 2 manoeuvres and skills, rough weather handling, navigation techniques, responsibilities as a Skipper, and passage planning.
