Stand-up Paddleboard Taster Session

If you’ve never paddled before and just want to give it a go, or if you want to find out more before committing to a course, why not come along on a taster session? Over the course of 2 hours, your instructor will provide you with a brief introduction to the equipment before taking you out on the water. No experience is necessary.

Sessions are available 10.00-12.00 and 14.00-16.00

Introduction to Stand-up Paddleboarding / BSUPA Level 1: Ready-to-Ride

This is a one-day course.

Pre-requisites: This course is suitable for those with no Stand-up Paddleboard experience, though an ability to swim will give you more confidence.

Spend a day with us on sheltered water learning all the skills needed to handle your Stand-up Paddleboard (SUP). In the morning you will cover all the basics, and reach the standard needed to obtain your Level 1 Ready to Ride certificate. In the afternoon you will put everything you have learnt into practice.
During the course you will be given an introduction to how the weather and environment affects you, how to carry the board and paddle, paddling technique, different types of turns, self rescue, and how to fall safely as well as well as the basics of how to plan expeditions.

Stand-up Paddleboard Day Trip

Pre-requisites: You should have enough experience to control your paddleboard in light winds and small waves, and the fitness to undertake a day’s journey at a relaxed pace. We recommend taking the Introduction to Stand-up Paddleboarding course before coming on one of these trips.

Put your Stand-up Paddleboard skills into practice with a gentle day trip on sheltered water, paddling at a relaxed pace, taking in the scenery, and possibly even spotting some wildlife. We will head to a local loch, a scenic stretch of the Edinburgh canal, or maybe even further afield depending on the weather. You will be accompanied by a qualified SUP instructor, who will be able to pass on tips to improve your paddling.

BSUPA Level 1 Ready to Ride Instructor Course

This is a 1-day course.

Pre-requisites: Candidates must hold an existing watersports instructor qualification, and have some experience of paddleboarding.

This is a 1-day conversion course for existing watersports instructors who wish to broaden their skills base. At the end of the course, participants will be able to deliver the British Stand Up Paddleboard Association (BSUPA)’s Ready to Ride certificate.

Please note that in order to deliver the certificate participants must also join BSUPA (not included in course cost).
